After a shaky first quarter, Drew Brees finally started to heat up and play nearly perfect football throughout the second quarter. That is, until the first play after the two-minute warning. The San Fransisco 49ers appear to be preserving their lead. Read more here >>

If you want to find out what’s important to Tarell Brown, you don’t have to go far. A look at the ink on his skin will reveal the three people closest to his heart.
On his neck sits a tribute to his late father, Robert, and another memorial rests on his left shoulder for his late mother, Tonya. The back of Brown’s neck bears the name of his daughter, Takyla.
On Sundays, Takyla’s name floats between Brown’s helmet and the No. 25 jersey he’s been wearing for five years now. The rest of the week, Brown retreats to his locker at 49ers headquarters, one which features a 4 x 6 clipboard that’s literally overflowing with pictures of his daughter.

SANTA CLARA – Here’s the transcript of Tarell Brown’s locker room Q&A from this morning.
Q: What were your thoughts on the win?
BROWN: I haven’t watched the film yet but I feel we can improve in a lot of areas. We did a lot of good things but we can also get better.
Q: What was your reaction to the handshake?
BROWN: I think a lot of people are blowing it out of proportion. I think coach was just excited for us and was amped up like he said. Coach will talk about it and he’ll address the issue.
LC: Is that what they told you to say?
BROWN: No, I just got here.
LC: In a fight, which coach would win?
BROWN: You know, I’m always going to go with my coach. But I don’t think none of those guys wanted any part of that. In the heat of the battle, emotions catch the best of you and it happens.

Fourth-year cornerback Tarell Brown is looking to build on a 2009 season in which he totaled 40 tackles and two interceptions. 49ers.com recently caught up with the play-making defensive back to see how training camp is going and to find out more about him.
1. What was it like getting the keys to your city this offseason because of your charitable work?
It was cool; it was definitely an honor. It was something I never expected.
2. Did you receive your own day as well?
Yes I did, June 25 is Tarell Brown Day in Mesquite, Texas.
3. What types of things have you tried to accomplish through your foundation?
We do a lot of giving back. We do camps and we are going to do a food drive this year. We are going to give out some school supplies and we have a few more things lined up. We try to do a lot of things to help out the youth to get them on the right track and give them the opportunities to succeed.
4. You were the punt-pass-kick champion from Texas as a 9-year-old, who would be the punt-pass-kick champion on this current 49ers roster?
I don’t know if anybody still throws the ball besides the quarterbacks. So it would be a toss-up.
5. What’s your favorite part of training camp?
I just like the camaraderie amongst the guys and all the jokes. We come up with stuff to keep everybody entertained.

From 49ers.com:
Gore scored the game’s only touchdown from 14 yards out after cornerback Tarell Brown picked off Cutler when his intended receiver, Devin Hester, slipped out of his route.
“He ran a double move, stutter comeback and I just tried to jump the route and he slipped coming out of his break,” Brown said of his first interception of the season and third of his career. “I was just trying to make a play and do the best that I could for the team.”
Brown’s interception followed one on the Bears previous drive, when defensive tackle Aubrayo Franklin got his first-career interception by picking off Cutler in front of the end zone.

On Thursday, 49ers head coach Mike Singletary announced there are one or two roster spots yet to be determined on his final roster. With one remaining preseason game left on the schedule this Friday night against the San Diego Chargers, the players on the bubble will have one last opportunity to make their final push to earn those remaining roles.
Two days after the Chargers game, the 49ers must trim their roster count from 73 to 53.
“Obviously, you want the best 53 guys you can,” head coach Singletary said earlier this week when describing his criteria for shaping his roster. “You just have to go through it and really look at what works for our team in terms of the offense and defense we’re playing, in terms of guys that we have to have.” Read more…

Q: In hindsight, how would you sum up your rookie season with the 49ers?
A: It was about what I expected. I knew the season was going to be long, but you hit a wall around game seven or eight. Your body gets to a point where it feels like it’s about to shut down and you have to keep pushing through it. But overall, it was a good year. Read more…
