If you want to find out what’s important to Tarell Brown, you don’t have to go far. A look at the ink on his skin will reveal the three people closest to his heart.
On his neck sits a tribute to his late father, Robert, and another memorial rests on his left shoulder for his late mother, Tonya. The back of Brown’s neck bears the name of his daughter, Takyla.
On Sundays, Takyla’s name floats between Brown’s helmet and the No. 25 jersey he’s been wearing for five years now. The rest of the week, Brown retreats to his locker at 49ers headquarters, one which features a 4 x 6 clipboard that’s literally overflowing with pictures of his daughter.

49ers defense keeps slim playoff hopes alive

The 49ers defense held wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald to only 22 yards receiving on the day. Anquan Boldin had only 40 yards through the air. Cornerback Tarell Brown was proud of how the defense played against a top tier passing attack.

“We give ourselves a lot of credit.  We worked real hard in practice, and we pay a lot of attention to details,” Brown said after the game. “Every day, we’re focusing a lot harder, and you can see it in all the guys.  We just want to go out there and show the world that we’re one of the top defenses in the league.”

From SFGate.com: Turnovers rule in Niners victory over Arizona

This was the 49ers’ defensive players’ opportunity to scream to the heavens that, yes, they are the determining factor in this team’s success, and yet they passed. No boasting, no chest-thumping, no “We always we knew we could make the Arizona Cardinals leave the ball on the ground seven times.”

There was a hint of “Monday Night Football” Syndrome, though, as best presented by nickel back Tarell Brown.

“We’re the only ones playing, the whole league is watching us, and it was good for us to show them what we could do,” he said after he and his mates put a breathtaking beatdown upon the Cardinals in San Francisco’s 24-9 victory Monday night. “We wanted to show we were good, that we could make a difference, and we did that.”

From 49ers.com:

Gore scored the game’s only touchdown from 14 yards out after cornerback Tarell Brown picked off Cutler when his intended receiver, Devin Hester, slipped out of his route.

“He ran a double move, stutter comeback and I just tried to jump the route and he slipped coming out of his break,” Brown said of his first interception of the season and third of his career. “I was just trying to make a play and do the best that I could for the team.”

Brown’s interception followed one on the Bears previous drive, when defensive tackle Aubrayo Franklin got his first-career interception by picking off Cutler in front of the end zone.

Ex-Longhorns cornerback Tarell Brown earns fresh start with 49ers

San Francisco 49ers cornerback Tarell Brown always knew he could do what he did last week. All he needed was a chance.

Brown made his second career start, taking over at left cornerback in place of Nate Clements. In 76 plays against the Indianapolis Colts, the ex-Texas Longhorns standout had only five minus plays. He gave up no big plays and no touchdowns. Pierre Garcon, whom Brown shadowed, had only four catches for 53 yards.

Not a bad start.

“Getting the opportunity was a blessing,” Brown said in a telephone interview. “The coaches had faith in me to go out there and felt like I could be an every-down corner. I think I proved that last week.”
